Malbec as a varietal is about as rare as you can get. Typically used as a blending component for Meritage (Bordeaux Blends) wines, this wine resembles Zinfandel with its inherent jam-like characteristics, but with more intense dark fruit character and a richer mouth-feel. The wine is a deep purple and possesses fairly soft tannins for such a young wine. It was aged in French oak barrels for 10 months in order to smooth out the bright tannins that can accompany this varietal. The wine is very versatile. We like it with meatloaf, tangy ribs and even pizza.
